Key WHS rules for WIRES volunteers
WIRES Members Must:
- Ensure Tetanus Boosters are always up to date
- Inform their GP that they are a Wildlife Carer
-
Ensure that your current level of training is appropriate for the rescue, i.e. you are prohibited from rescuing bats and snakes prior to completing the WIRES approved specific training course for those species
-
Never climb into a roof or into ceilings or crawl into drains
-
Never go beneath houses or buildings
-
Never enter dilapidated buildings
-
If you must climb a ladder, ensure that it is placed on secure ground and that someone is holding the bottom of the ladder. Do not climb old, compromised ladders.
All injuries/incidents must be fully reported to your Branch Management Committee as soon as possible after the incident.
The incident report form is available on the WHS page.
