Sacred Kingfisher

This sacred kingfisher was found outside of the local Bunnings at Bathurst.

He was quite concussed when he was found after he had collided with the window of the hardware store. His wings looked fine and he was put in an aviary for the night for observation. The next morning he was flying around and eating well so he was released that day, well away from Bunnings and their windows.

Sacred kingfishers are a medium sized kingfisher that inhabit forests and woodlands around Australia. Sacred kingfishers feed on small lizards, frogs, invertebrates such as beetles and grasshoppers, and occasionally fish. They breed in hollow tree limbs or in termite mounds.
